I’m Reko Ponton, founder of The Dive Guide, underwater photographer, and your personal concierge to the Caribbean and Mexico’s most unforgettable dive experiences.

My journey started in a military family, moving base to base, learning resilience early. At 17, I joined the U.S. Army and served as a Combat Medic during the Gulf War. After returning home, I spent over two decades in IT—solving complex systems, leading teams, and staying cool under pressure.

But it was a job in the Cayman Islands that changed my trajectory.

There, I learned to dive—and found peace, wonder, and purpose in the ocean’s depths.

I created The Dive Guide to offer more than just group tours. I curate personalized dive adventures for people who crave meaning, comfort, and connection in their travel.

And yes, I’ll even teach you how to float without sinking your GoPro.

Common Questions:

  1. Can anyone learn to dive?
    Yes! Most people can learn to dive as long as they meet basic health requirements and feel comfortable in the water. Beginners start with an Open Water certification course, which includes pool training and guided open-water dives. If you’re unsure, a Discover Scuba Diving experience is a great way to try it out before committing to certification.

  2. How expensive is it?
    Pricing depends on the type of trip and services included. Our 7-day and 14-day dive packages cover transportation, boat dives, and optional underwater photography. Additional dive days and equipment rentals are available for an extra cost. Contact us for a custom quote based on your preferred destination and package.

  3. Where are you offering trips to?
    We currently arrange dive trips to the Cayman Islands and the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico, including ocean dives and cenote dives in Playa del Carmen and Cancun. We plan to expand to The Bahamas in the future!

  4. How far in advance do I need to book a trip?
    We recommend booking at least 2-3 months in advance to secure availability, especially during peak diving seasons. Last-minute bookings may be possible, but availability is limited. Contact us to discuss your preferred travel dates!
